Australia is ‘becoming the place to be’ in the space industry

ANU astrophysicist and cosmologist Dr Brad Tucker says Australia is moving up in the space industry with local and global companies looking to use us as a launch base.

“It’s just showing that this is the place to be,” he told Sky News Australia.

“Because this is essentially just an investment from overseas, they’re paying groups in Australia to operate, run, manage, handle.”

Dr Tucker said this investment then develops Australia’s capability to support more missions and infrastructure.

“It allows for easier, cheaper rides for our equipment into space as well – you don’t have to ship it overseas, you can do it from Australia.”

“And with more and more companies wanting to do this, it just shows we’re quickly becoming the place to be.”
